When just a little gold isn’t enough – ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition

ASUS unveils graphics card with 5 kg of pure gold

If you thought the Dhahab Edition graphics card was an outlier, ASUS has shown it can still nail it. At Bilibili World 2025, they unveiled one of the craziest pieces of tech today – the ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition. It’s not just a gold design. This is literally a graphics card from head to toe encased in pure 24K gold.

The gold on it isn’t just a thin layer like the Dhahab version. In this case, it’s 5kg of pure gold, making it not only the heaviest, but also the most expensive graphics card ASUS has ever created. The total weight of the card reaches up to 7.24 kg, while the gold alone is worth over 500 thousand US dollars (over 430 thousand euros). Yes, just for the material used. Add to that the chip, components and technological processing and you get a product that outperforms even fully populated AI servers in price.

A collector’s item straight out of a jewellery box

The ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition is a one-of-a-kind, one-piece creation. ASUS is not offering it for sale, it is a showcase of luxury and technical precision. The design was created using a sand casting technique, which created an uneven surface with a raw texture. The result is a card that resembles an art object from a gallery rather than part of a computer kit.

The public premiere was handled by Tony Yu, also known as “Uncle Tony”, who presented the card along with influencer Talented Cai Qian. The visuals with calligraphy and a rough finish look rugged yet luxurious, exactly how ASUS wanted the ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition to look.

Extreme hardware in a gold card

From a technical standpoint, nothing has changed. The ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition is built on the same NVIDIA Blackwell architecture as the regular RTX 5090 Astral version. The card features 21,760 CUDA cores, 32GB of GDDR7 memory and a 512-bit memory bus. Boost frequency reaches up to 2610 MHz in OC mode.

All the latest technologies are commonplace such as DLSS 4, fourth generation ray tracing, AI performance up to 3593 TOPs or patented cooling with four fans. All of this makes the ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition a truly high-end graphics card if anyone ever dares to plug it into a lineup.

Dhahab was just a prelude

When compared to the previous Dhahab OC Edition model, it’s clear that ASUS has gone hard this time around. While the Dhahab version only contained 6.5 grams of gold, the ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition carries a straight 5 kilograms. Not only has the weight and price increased significantly, but so has the overall visual impression the card leaves.

The Dhahab Edition was available in very limited numbers and actually sold out. It had an understated design, with Arabic ornaments and golden details complemented with blue stones. In contrast, the Real Gold Edition is raw, solid and its aesthetic is divisive, reminding some of a work of art, others of an unfinished experiment. But that’s what makes the ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition so special and memorable.

Who is this gold RTX for ?

This card is not for the casual user. The ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition is too big, heavy, and expensive for anyone to fit into a gaming PC. It’s a show piece and a technological marvel that exists only to impress and amaze.

In the future, it may appear in an auction where the proceeds will go to charity, much like previous limited editions. It will not, however, go on general sale. And perhaps that’s a good thing, because this piece is destined to remain exceptional.

Conclusion

The ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 Real Gold Edition isn’t just another graphics card. It’s a technological jewel, a fusion of extreme performance and extreme luxury. After the Dhahab edition, this is the next step towards ultra-limited and collectible pieces that combine engineering and design into one object.

Even if the performance of this card will one day become obsolete, its gold and story will remain. And with it, its place among the most significant hardware fads of all time.
