AMD Radeon RX 9090 XT on the horizon ?

Rumor has it that AMD is secretly preparing a brutal machine – a new gaming graphics card that will supposedly have up to 40% more performance and speed than its predecessor, the Radeon RX 9070 XT.

First leaked details about AMD Radeon RX 9090 XT

New information has emerged about the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 9090 XT graphics card. It is said to compete with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and will offer up to 32 GB of GDDR7 VRAM.

Although AMD’s new cards are not very popular according to Steam’s May survey, all that may soon be a thing of the past as the projected price/performance ratio looks really promising. Radeon RX 9070 XT was rated with high numbers by most GPU testers, the card received up to 8/10 points on average and certain to be one of the best cards in its lineup, however, the problem remains its current price on the market.

Interestingly, the basic specs of the new GPU should remain the same as those of the 9070 XT. AMD is said not to be planning an entirely new chip, but instead will use the existing Navi 48 chip, but produce it using an upgraded process. This is expected to deliver much higher frequencies and lower power consumption.

Old architecture, new frequencies: Navi 48 in a new guise

According to the latest leaked information, the RX 9090 XT test samples are ramping up really crazy. Rumor has it that in real games, the card is actually running at around 3.4GHz, which is a truly breakneck pace! By comparison, the current RX 9070 XT is only hovering somewhere around 2.4GHz, which means that if these numbers are confirmed, gamers can look forward to a proper performance jump like nothing AMD has ever seen before. It sounds impressive, but the architecture remains basically the same for now, so AMD is building on a proven foundation, only acceleration and tweaking to the max should be planned.

This information was brought to you by well-known tech YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID). According to his latest video, AMD is not going to introduce any revolution, but rather a proper evolution of what already works. The new card is said to use a more advanced manufacturing process for the Navi 48 chip and support the latest GDDR7 memory. It was originally said to be an artificial intelligence project, but now it’s headed to gaming kits as well, which is sure to please more than one gamer who is considering upgrading their PC in the near future.

What will the RX 9090 XT look like?

The new card is said to resemble the Radeon VII card from 2019. What could the new RX 9090 XT approximately look like ? The following design is making the rounds through the discussion forums.

AMD Radeon RX 9090 XT: 32 GB of VRAM at half the price?

MLID also mentions that the new card could have up to 32 GB of GDDR7 VRAM and a starting price of around $1,000, which is about 2-3 times less than the RTX 5090 release. Although MLID suggests that AMD Radeon RX 9090 XT could match the RTX 5090 in performance, there are concerns whether it will actually manage to do so. The main reason for this is the huge amount of CUDA cores that the RTX 5090 has, giving it massive raw power. MLID also predicts that although AMD’s new card probably won’t outperform the RTX 5090 by a large margin, at 1080p resolution it could absolutely crush it, because at that resolution, it’s the high clock speeds that matter more, which the Radeon RX 9090 XT should have really cranked up.

Of course, for now this is just conjecture and speculation that may not come true. Perhaps the 9070 XT will indeed remain the pinnacle of the RDNA 4 architecture. What do you think about it ? Is AMD preparing some secret “weapon” with which it can trump NVIDIA and its GeForce RTX 5090? In our opinion, it looks very tempting, but let’s not be charmed by unverified information and wait to see what AMD’s official manufacturer will come up with. Either way, this year is going to be a busy one – we’ve certainly got a lot to look forward to.
