AMD extends FSR4 support for several game titles

One would think that software like FidelityFX Super Resolution version 4 would have worked in every game and application by now. You might be wondering, what does that name actually mean? We’ll be happy to simplify it for you.

FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is a technology from AMD that can increase frames per second (FPS) and improve the smoothness of images in games without significantly compromising graphics quality. FSR works by taking a lower resolution image and “upscaling” it to a higher resolution – making games run faster but still look great.

Surprisingly slow to deploy yet easy to integrate FSR4

Despite the AMD RDNA 4 architecture being officially released three months ago, only a limited number of game titles are actively using FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 technology. Interestingly, the latest version of FSR 4 no longer requires additional intervention by the developers of the title in question. It even excludes any other developer assistance.

The only prerequisite is direct support for the previous version of FSR 3.1 or support for the FSR 4 SDK (Software Development Kit – a package of tools, libraries and documentation that allows developers to more easily integrate the technology into their applications). Simply put – if a game supports FSR 3.1, it will also support the latest version of FSR 4. However, it is important to inform all avid gamers that updating to the latest version may slightly increase the requirements on your hardware.

New drivers from AMD

Last week AMD officially released two newdrivers. One of them is Adrenalin 25.6.1 WHQL, which should be downloaded by every casual user as it brings overall performance and stability optimization for a wide range of games and applications.

The second driver released is the FSR Technical Preview driver, which AMD says is based on the same “branch”, but extends FSR 4 support to more game titles than are normally available via the WHQL driver.

The future of AMD’s FSR 4?

Even though FSR 4 has been slow to get off the ground, it’s obvious that AMD has big plans for the technology. With over 60 supported titles, it’s clear that AMD is working hard to expand the reach of FSR 4.

Its ease of integration and extended support through drivers suggest a promising future. We believe that in the coming months the list of games with FSR 4 support will expand rapidly, bringing a better gaming experience to even more gamers. We will continue to monitor this situation and keep you updated on the latest developments.
